Year 2 Living in Space Comprehension / World Space Week

This resource is a non-fiction comprehension activity for year 2. The theme of the comprehension is ‘living in space’ and the booklet covers what it is like for astronauts living in space stations, including what they eat, how they sleep, how they exercise and what they do in their spare time. It would be perfect for using during ‘World Space Week’ in October, during a space topic or during ‘Science Week.’ The booklets are based on the KS1 SATs reading paper. I have included 3 differentiated levels. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘where,’ ‘how’ and ‘who’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. The activity is also laid out in a similar way to the SATs booklets. There is a title page with helpful words followed by four pages of pictures and short written extracts to read and 4 questions per page. Each differentiated level contains 16 questions in total. There is a colour and black white PDF version of the booklet for each level and answers are also included.

This is a lesson plan and resources to teach children about Lent and why Christians perform good deeds during Lent. It is suitable for ages 7-11. The 4 page plan (pdf) includes details of a starter, an introduction to a parable, a writing task and a philosophical discussion for the plenary. It contains learning objectives for three levels of abilities. This is a set of three lesson plans to teach children about the fun Jewish holiday of Purim. It is suitable for ages 7 - 11. The pdf plans are very detailed (11 pages plus resources). These lessons could be taught at any time of the year. Lesson 1 teaches children about the story of Queen Esther and includes a drama hot seating activity. Lesson 2 teaches children about how Jewish people celebrate Purim and includes a letter writing activity. This is an assembly for Mother’s Day, with a focus on a Bible quote. There is a 4 page pdf plan and a 20 slide animated PowerPoint (non-editable- click ‘Read Only’ to open). In this assembly, children are encouraged to think about what they learn from their parents. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! Both the plan and PowerPoint can be used on their own or together to suit your needs. You can also jump to different sections of the PowerPoint. I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. So this assembly involves discussions and a long anecdote on some childhood incidents where the assembly leader did not follow their parents’ rules. You can use the examples in the plan or use an anecdote from your own childhood. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with.

This resource is a comprehension activity based on the year 6 reading comprehension SATs paper. The theme for the comprehension is the story of Jesus’ arrest before Good Friday, which I have rewritten to resemble the style of the reading paper. I have included 3 differentiated levels. The Higher Ability level (781 words) is similar to the SATs paper, whilst the Middle Ability (654 words) and Lower Ability (564 words) use slightly simplified wording in the reading and question booklet. Each level contains a 3 page reading booklet and an accompanying 4 page question booklet, which contains a range of questions based on past papers. There are also example answers. The preview pages show one page from the higher ability comprehension booklet and question booklet and one page from the higher ability black & white booklet. PDF file format.
